Description

Campeggio Alidosi is a small and peaceful riverside campsite in Castel del Rio, in the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines of Emilia-Romagna, between Bologna and Florence and around 30 minutes from Imola. Set beside the Santerno River and surrounded by woodland and mountain scenery, it is a natural choice for travellers looking for a quiet camping escape with plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. The campsite is also a stopping point along the Alta Via dei Parchi.

The main campsite has 14 pitches, offering space for tents and electrical connections. Vans are accepted in limited numbers, while larger motorhomes are better suited to the separate camper area located approximately 100 metres from the main camping area, which provides 10 pitches with electricity. This makes the property suitable for different types of camping trips, from traditional tent camping to motorhome touring.

Facilities at the campsite are simple but well maintained. Guests have access to two indoor hot showers, two enclosed toilets and one outdoor shower, as well as a dedicated barbecue area. The regional tourism authority also confirms accessible sanitary and shower facilities. Electricity is available at the camping pitches for an additional charge.

One of the biggest advantages of staying here is the river setting. The Santerno River is only a short walk from the campsite, with natural pools where guests can enjoy a refreshing swim when conditions are suitable.

Food is also easy to enjoy without leaving the area. The Shangri-La riverside kiosk operates during the season and serves Romagna specialities, fresh pasta, meat dishes, fish, burgers, sandwiches, piadine, salads and cocktails. It sits beside the river, providing a relaxed place to eat and unwind after a day outdoors.

For active travellers, the surrounding Apennines offer hiking, road cycling, gravel cycling, mountain biking and downhill routes. Seasonal activities organised by the campsite include kayak sessions, guided excursions and canyoning, depending on weather and river conditions.

With only 14 camping pitches and a separate 10-pitch camper area, Campeggio Alidosi offers a more intimate alternative to large holiday campsites. Its combination of river access, mountain scenery, practical facilities and outdoor activities makes it particularly attractive for travellers who want to spend their Italian getaway surrounded by nature.

Campeggio Alidosi is exceptionally well positioned for exploring Castel del Rio and the Santerno Valley. The centre of Castel del Rio is approximately 600 metres from the campsite, meaning guests can reach local amenities without having to make a long journey. A grocery shop and snack bar are also listed at around 600 metres, while a larger supermarket is approximately 15 km away.

One of the most distinctive sights nearby is the historic Ponte degli Alidosi, a famous bridge in Castel del Rio. The bridge is only a short distance from the campsite, with mapping data placing the campsite roughly 220 metres from the bridge. The surrounding village provides opportunities to stroll through the historic centre, stop for a coffee or meal and enjoy the atmosphere of this Apennine community.

For swimming and summer relaxation, the Santerno River is just steps from the campsite and offers natural pools. An outdoor swimming pool is also listed approximately 800 metres away.

Outdoor enthusiasts have plenty to choose from. Hiking trails, MTB routes, road cycling and downhill routes run through the surrounding hills and forests. The campsite also offers seasonal kayak instruction on the Santerno River, while guided hiking and canyoning activities may be available depending on the season and conditions.

The area is also known for its seasonal natural produce, including mushrooms, truffles and chestnuts, making autumn an especially appealing time to explore the local countryside.

For a larger day trip, the campsite is around 30 minutes from Imola and the Enzo e Dino Ferrari racetrack, making it a convenient base for visitors attending races, concerts or other events while still allowing them to return to a peaceful riverside setting at the end of the day.

There is no need to travel to the coast for a swimming experience here: the attraction is the Santerno River and its natural pools. For travellers seeking restaurants, shops, historic sights and outdoor adventures close to their campsite, the location combines convenience with a genuinely rural Apennine atmosphere.

Good to know

Campeggio Alidosi's 2026 camping season runs from 3 April to 31 October, although the campsite notes that opening dates can vary slightly depending on weather conditions. Check-in is from 12:00 to 20:00, while check-out is by 11:00. Arrivals after 20:00 may be possible by prior arrangement and can involve an additional charge.

The campsite is small, so larger motorhomes may find manoeuvring inside the main camping area difficult. The property therefore recommends the separate motorhome area approximately 100 metres away for larger vehicles. The camper area has 10 pitches with electricity and is designed for self-contained motorhomes; it does not have its own toilets.

Dogs are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead in communal areas. The current official information states that a dog fee applies and that some restrictions are in place during July and August.

The campsite does not currently offer Wi-Fi, so guests who need a reliable internet connection should plan accordingly.

Quiet hours are from 22:00 to 08:00, helping preserve the calm atmosphere of this small nature campsite. Barbecues are permitted only in the designated barbecue area; open fires and personal barbecues placed directly on the ground are not allowed.

Bookings are handled directly by email or WhatsApp rather than through an automatic online booking system. Guests should provide their dates and accommodation type and wait for confirmation from the campsite.

Payment can be made by cash, bank transfer, Visa, Mastercard or Satispay; American Express is not accepted. Camping prices vary according to season, with electricity charged separately. Children aged 0–4 stay free according to the 2026 price information.

If you are looking for a quiet campsite where you can wake beside a river, spend the day hiking or cycling and finish with local food by the water, Campeggio Alidosi offers an appealing base for discovering the Santerno Valley.
