Camping pitch
161 Route du Villard, Chabottes
05260 Hautes-Alpes
Camping du Château sits in the Hautes-Alpes. The campsite covers approximately 30,000 m² (3 hectares) and offers around 55 pitches — a manageable size that ensures space, peace and a relaxed atmosphere.
The pitches are grassy and shaded, many under tree canopy, which brings a calming natural ambience. Electricity is optional for pitches (if required, at a modest extra cost). The campsite also provides essential amenities: hot-water showers, hot-water washbasins, shared sanitary facilities, solar-heated water, and a communal area for campervans including a service point for waste water and toilet emptying.
Additional conveniences include a communal freezer (to keep food fresh), dishwashing sinks, and access to fresh water supply — useful if you’re self-catering. There is also a car park / motorhome parking area, and motorhomes are welcome. For families, there’s a children’s play area (swings / play zone) plus outdoor games: notably a pétanque court and a volleyball court.
Pets are allowed — dogs are welcome (though with restrictions on certain breeds).
All in all, Camping du Château offers a simple but well-equipped, peaceful base for camping, caravanning or motorhome stays amid nature.
Check-in date
Check-out date
Camping du Château is located only 5 minutes by car from the alpine village of Chabottes, and also about 5 minutes from the nearby small resort village Saint‑Léger‑les‑Mélèzes. The larger resort area Orcières is about 20 minutes by car.
In summer, Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes becomes a great outdoor playground: there are hiking and mountain biking trails, and for the thrill-seekers — opportunities for paragliding and canyoning. Meanwhile, nearby villages such as Ancelle (about 10 minutes away) offer forest and alpine-pasture walks. For a wider range of mountain trails, head to Saint‑Michel‑de‑Chaillol (about 20 minutes away), with hiking and mountain-biking paths in the valleys of Champsaur and Valgaudemar.
Orcières also serves as a gateway for climbing in the nearby Écrins National Park, and hosts summer events such as the MTB Games — ideal for lovers of adventure and mountain sport.
If you’re more into mild family-friendly outings instead of adrenaline activities, Camping du Château offers a calm base — and from there it’s easy to venture out to explore local villages, mountain views, and alpine nature at a relaxed pace.
The campsite is open seasonally: from 1 May to 30 September. For those coming by motorhome or campervan: the site includes a dedicated service area for emptying grey and black water, refilling water and waste disposal.
Electricity at pitches is optional and costs extra. Because of the modest size and tranquil nature of the site, Camping du Château is not focused on entertainment, nightlife or kids’ clubs — it’s more about peace, nature and relaxation.
While pets are welcome, note that certain dog breeds — and crossbreeds listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act (e.g. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, etc.) — are not permitted. At least one member of your group must be aged 18 or older. (This aligns with the campsite’s general policy.)
If you rely on public transport, check local connections: the website mentions “documentation touristique”, and the general location implies rural mountain roads; a car is strongly recommended for exploring the region easily and comfortably.
Camping du Château is ideal for travellers seeking a quiet, simple, natural and family-friendly base — especially if you enjoy hiking, mountain biking or just relaxing under pine trees with mountain views around.
