50 Route d'Ars
17670 La Couarde Sur Mer
L'Océan & Spa is a prestigious 5-star campsite by Eden Villages, set in the heart of the Île de Ré — one of France’s most sought-after Atlantic island destinations. Positioned just 50 metres from the ocean on the Route d'Ars between La Couarde-sur-Mer and Ars-en-Ré, the campsite enjoys a remarkable setting bordered by salt marshes and a scenic seawater pond that has defined this landscape for centuries.
The campsite’s centrepiece is its 420 m² heated aquatic complex featuring two outdoor swimming pools and a dedicated paddling pool for young children. Beyond the pools, a luxurious 300 m² spa and wellness centre offers hammam, sauna, individual hydromassage baths (Thalia by SOMETHY), a warm-water relaxation bed (Plénitude), and professional body treatments using Yon-Ka and Equatoria products. The spa is open daily except Tuesdays from April to September and is also accessible to non-guests.
With 338 pitches spread across lush, landscaped grounds, the campsite offers 14 accommodation types ranging from budget-friendly Access mobile homes to top-tier Premium units with private jacuzzis and panoramic marsh views, plus Tiny Homes and Eco-Lodge tents for something different. Traditional camping pitches are available in five tiers from basic to full-service with private sanitary facilities.
On-site activities include a tennis court, mini-golf, boulodrome, multi-sports field, table tennis, fitness room with cardio/weight equipment, and an arcade games room. In July and August, the Eden Kids Club (ages 5–12) and Teen Club (ages 13–17) run daily programmes including inflatables, circus initiation, catamaran sailing, and sports tournaments. Evening entertainment features live shows, theme nights, and disco.
Dining is covered by a full-service restaurant, bar, and snack bar on-site, alongside a grocery shop with fresh bread daily. Bicycle rental (including e-bikes and child trailers) gives direct access to the island’s famous 138 km cycle-path network straight from the campsite gate. Practical services include laundry, electric car charging, camping car emptying, and a car vacuum station.

The Île de Ré is a 30 km-long island connected to La Rochelle by a toll bridge. La Couarde-sur-Mer sits centrally on the island, making it an ideal base for exploring in every direction.
The beach directly opposite the campsite (50 m) is part of a stunning 5 km stretch of fine sand running from Plage des Prises to Plage des Petites Folies — one of the longest unbroken beaches on the island. Water sports thrive here: sailing, kitesurfing, jet ski, waterskiing, stand-up paddleboarding, and surfing. La Pergola beach, within this stretch, is an internationally recognised surf spot.
The Loix Salt Marsh Ecomuseum (2.5 km) offers guided walks through the island’s characteristic salt-harvesting landscape. A yachting club just 2 km away provides sailing courses and boat hire. Carrousel Park (3.5 km, 5 min drive) offers family amusement rides.
La Couarde-sur-Mer village (3.8 km, 7 min) features a charming labyrinth of flowered lanes, a bandstand hosting summer concerts, local markets, and a strong restaurant scene: Le Balaou (1,521 reviews), NORA Restaurant Bar, La Salicorne, and seafood specialists like La Cabane du Feneau (3.4 km).
Saint-Martin-de-Ré (10 km, 13 min) is the island’s historic capital with its UNESCO-listed star-shaped Vauban citadel and fortifications, a picturesque harbour lined with cafés, escape rooms, and boutique shopping. The iconic Phare des Baleines lighthouse (11.2 km, 15 min) at the island’s western tip offers panoramic views after 257 steps.
Donkey rides “in knickerbockers” (a beloved Île de Ré tradition) are available 10 km away. The Maison du Fier nature centre (14.1 km) showcases the island’s biodiversity. Further afield, Fort la Prée (19.3 km) offers guided military heritage visits, and boat trips reach the legendary Fort Boyard (33.3 km offshore). La Rochelle (32.5 km, 44 min) provides a full city experience with its famous harbour towers, aquarium, and old town.
The island’s 138 km of dedicated cycle paths are accessible directly from the campsite — making car-free exploration of vineyards, oyster farms, pine forests, and photogenic villages effortless.
