Camping Emstal, nestled on the banks of the Ems River in Sustrum, is a nature lover’s paradise that delivers exactly what a peaceful, green camping holiday should be. The site is run by the Wanke family. Spread over a gently rolling meadow of about 45,000 m², the campsite offers 107 parceled pitches — some open, some tucked into hedged niches — all set in a quiet, natural environment between the river and an oxbow lake.
Every pitch at Emstal is well-serviced: electricity, water, and wastewater connections are available at every site, making it ideal for motorhomes, caravans, campervans, tents, or rooftop tents. A “Comfort” category of pitches offers around 100 m² of lush grass, framed by hedgerows and trees for privacy. For larger caravans or motorhomes, “Maxi” spots stretch from 150 to 200 m². Tent campers can also find their place on open meadow spots or under light tree cover.
The sanitary facilities are clean and modern. There are private-style cubicles, washing-up rooms, and in the laundry area, washing machines and dryers. The campsite supports camper needs well: there is a drive-in service station for gray water disposal and fresh water filling, plus a CamperClean unit for cassette toilets. For convenience, there is a kiosk on site and a morning bread-roll service, and gas bottles are available. The pitches are well connected: free Wi-Fi reaches right to the camping spots.
One of the highlights is the natural bathing area by the river, where guests can swim or just relax. Anglers will love it: a sheltered fishing spot on or near the Ems allows for fishing for species like perch, pike, carp, and more — guests just need a valid day ticket.
