Camino Cortijo del Cura, S/N
18812 Freila
Nestled in a truly privileged natural setting, Camping Rural La Cabañuela sits in Freila, Granada — right in the heart of the Granada Geopark. Just 300 metres from the Negratin Reservoir, the site overlooks the dramatic badlands carved into the landscape, offering a panorama like no other.
This tranquil campsite is designed for a wide variety of travelers: whether you're arriving by motorhome, campervan, caravan, car, or pitching a tent, La Cabañuela has you covered. There are more than 80 pitches, spacious and adaptable, ranging from 60 m² to 120 m², many with natural landscape views and 16-amp electricity hookups.
When it’s time to relax, the bar-restaurant is open most of the year and offers traditional Andalusian dishes made with local ingredients, from light snacks to paellas or fideuá, plus weekend specialties like pulpo (octopus) and sardines. On special dates, the evenings come alive with musical performances, including flamenco, creating a magical and intimate atmosphere.
For leisure, there’s a rectangular pool with shaded areas and artificial turf, open in summer. Sports lovers will appreciate the new paddle tennis court, available every day from 9:00 up to midnight, with special rates for campsite guests.
Essential services are well covered: free Wi-Fi, water, chemical toilet disposal, showers with hot water, a first-aid kit, parking, and a pet-friendly policy. There is also a laundry area (washing machines, dryer, ironing) and kitchen sinks with both cold and hot water.
The campsite’s reception is open from 10:00 to 20:00, ready to help you plan activities, hiking or touring around.

La Cabañuela’s location is a dream for nature lovers and adventurers alike. It’s right on the shores of the Negratin Reservoir, one of Andalusia’s largest lakes. The reservoir’s shimmering waters and rugged, colorful badlands create a surreal, almost otherworldly landscape.
You’ll find a rich menu of outdoor activities: kayaking, paddle surfing, sailing, hydropedal, and even bathing spots along the reservoir’s edge. For more adventurous spirits, there are hiking routes, mountain-biking trails, 4×4 tracks, and paragliding from the nearby Cerro Jabalcón.
Because the campsite is in the Granada Geopark, you’re surrounded by geological wonders. The area features semi-arid landscapes, dramatic ravines (the badlands), and ancient geological formations. The geopark also includes culturally significant sites: prehistorical remains, megalithic monuments, and traditional cave dwellings.
In the nearby town of Freila (just about 4 km away), you can explore historical and local charm: visit the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Anunciación, the Nazarí-era Freila Castle, and the Torre del Maruq, an old watchtower perched above the reservoir. Freila also has a “cuevas” quarter — cave homes carved into the hills — which you can admire or even lodge in if you choose.
For stargazing, the lack of light pollution makes this spot truly special. The dark skies of the Geopark are perfect for observing constellations, galaxies, and the Milky Way with exceptional clarity.
