Camping pitch
Bromach W. 1
8832 Oberwölz Stadt
Camping Rothenfels lies on the slopes below the historic Burg Rothenfels, offering a terraced, tranquil campsite embedded in forest and meadow scenery. The overall site covers about 8 hectares, with around 100 pitches for tourist campers and 20 for long-term campers, plus generous space for tents, caravans, and motorhomes.
The terrain is largely grass and natural meadow, arranged in terraced levels — many pitches come with electric hookups, and several terraces include a water tap for convenience. A centrally-located sanitary building serves the main pitch area year-round, with warm-water showers, toilets, dishwashing sinks, and washbasins. For the naturist (FKK) section there are separate sanitary containers, open during warmer months.
Families and children are welcome: there is a playground on site, a safe, nature-rich environment for kids to play and explore. For light meals or refreshments, there is a café near reception, offering a cozy place to relax with views over the valley and town below.
Guests can also enjoy a swimming opportunity: a small natural bathing pond/ lake, used by both textile and naturist guests.
The overall vibe is one of simplicity, peacefulness and connection to nature — a campsite where you can relax beneath the stars, enjoy fresh air, and recharge away from city noise.

Camping Rothenfels is only about 1–1.5 km from the center of the small historic town Oberwölz, the smallest historic town in Styria — easily reachable on foot.
From the campsite, a network of well-marked hiking trails leads into the surrounding forest and hills — from gentle walks to more challenging mountain hikes reaching elevations up to ~2,500 m in the nearby Wölzer Tauern range. In the mountains, rustic alpine huts offer regional cuisine — perfect for a hiking day trip combined with traditional food and panoramic mountain views.
For history and culture lovers, the visible Burg Rothenfels, perched above the campsite, is a remarkable medieval castle with ancient heritage — a stroll up offers both ambiance and scenic views over the valley and Oberwölz.
In town and nearby you can also find shops, restaurants, and local amenities — the proximity to Oberwölz makes it easy to cover daily necessities or enjoy a meal without needing a vehicle.
In winter months or colder seasons, the area transforms: while the campsite itself may offer a quieter, cozy stay, nearby ski areas (the region’s ski-lifts and winter facilities) are accessible for those seeking winter sports — offering a great base for a mountain getaway.
