Description

Nestled in the heart of Mecklenburg Switzerland, right on the east bank of Lake Kummerow, Campingplatz Gravelotte offers a peaceful, nature-rich retreat for tents, caravans, and motorhomes. The site spans around 4 hectares of non-parceled terrain and includes approximately 120–165 pitches for campers.

At Gravelotte, you can enjoy a fine sandy natural beach with a wide sunbathing lawn — perfect for relaxing by the water. There’s also a separate bathing area just for dogs, so your four-legged friend can splash safely. For children, a playground invites play, and for the adventurous, there’s a harbor with boat moorings and a slipway, making it very welcoming for water travelers.

Sanitary facilities are well-equipped: warm showers, washbasins, toilets, chemical disposal, a washing machine, and a dryer are all available. There’s an on-site parking area (fee applies) just beside the campsite. For water campers, the water-wanderer rest area allows private and charter boats to dock — just register with the harbor master.

The harbor has its own set of rules; after you dock, you're asked to call the harbor master to register. There is a slip fee for launching boats. The campsite opens seasonally (usually from April to October) for camping. For travelers arriving by car, there’s a paid parking area right next to the site. If you arrive by boat, the harbor master welcomes you to dock, just be sure to call in so they can assign a proper mooring spot.

Surrounded by the gentle hills, forests, and waterways of Mecklenburg Switzerland, Gravelotte is a gateway to some of the region’s most charming natural and cultural experiences.

Outdoor lovers can follow the nature trail from Gravelotte to Verchen (around 3.5 km), which offers scenic views, interpretive signage, and seating to rest and enjoy the lake. The area is very cycle-friendly: there’s a network of well-maintained bicycle paths that lead you around Lake Kummerow and into nearby towns like Malchin, Sommersdorf, and Kummerow.

Water-based activities are a real draw: you can rent canoes, kayaks, or boats just a few kilometers away in Verchen (Adventure Peenetal), or join a guided tour. Anglers will feel right at home — the lake is known as one of Germany’s most fish-rich waters, and you can obtain a tourist fishing license to try your luck.

For a touch of history and natural wonder, head to the nearby Ivenack Oaks, where thousand-year-old oak trees stand alongside a wildlife park with tame deer. Other notable castles and manor houses, like Schlitz Castle, Klempenow Castle, and Basedow Castle, are within reach for a day trip.

Meesiger itself is a small, historic village: you can explore its old field-stone church and picturesque homes. If you prefer local, organic shopping, the nearby Bio Hofladen (organic farm shop) in Clausdorf is a treat, as is the natural food store “Die Zwiebel” in Hanseatic Demmin, which offers regional specialties.

Good to know

Planning your stay here is about embracing simplicity and nature. Reception opens daily from 08:00 to 18:00, and while late arrivals (up to 22:00) are possible, you’ll need to call ahead.

Quiet hours are strictly observed to preserve the tranquility: from 1 PM to 3 PM, and again from 10 PM to 7 AM. Driving on-site is limited to walking speed.

Pets are welcome, but must always be leashed. There’s no access for dogs at the main swimming beach, but the alternate dog beach makes up for that. Clean-up is required, and the site provides bags and buckets.

Swimming here is unguided — there’s no lifeguard on duty, and swimming in the harbor basin is prohibited for safety. Guests are responsible for any damage they cause, and the campsite staff maintains authority to enforce rules, including eviction if necessary. Parts of the site are under video surveillance, clearly marked for your awareness.

If you’re arriving by boat, call the harbor master as soon as you dock. Slip access costs €5, and mooring tariffs depend on your vessel’s size and duration of stay. The campsite is seasonal, roughly open from mid-April through October, and rates vary by season. Electricity is available for a nightly flat fee, and payments can be made in cash or by card at check-in.
