Nearby

Kukkolaforsen Turist & Konferens offers many unique activities. Here you can try white water rafting, sauna bathing in Sweden's only sauna village, snowmobile safari, whitefish cutting. The genuine environment with halibut sheds, fishing museum, fishing sheds and water-powered mills around the area is really a cool experience. Hook-and-line fishing is carried out using ancient methods and is also worth trying.

The on-site restaurant has a fantastic view of the rapids and neighboring Finland. It offers food and experiences suitable for all occasions. Everything is then prepared so that the Tornedalian flavors come to their full advantage. Of course, the restaurant has full rights. The restaurant is very popular and gets booked up quickly during the high season. We therefore recommend you to be out in good time when you book. This applies to both lunch and dinner.

In the area around Kukkolaforsen Cultural Village there are many places to visit. A sawmill, an old miller's residence and two water-powered mills are just some of the different buildings you can visit in their natural environment. During the summer, the old machines start up so you can see for yourself how it was in the past. Another thing that is very popular to visit is the fishing museum where you can learn about the fishing culture and all the species of the Torne River.

In the surrounding area you will find nice jogging trails and hiking trails that during the winter are transformed into wonderful ski trails. As if that were not enough, there is also a world heritage site here. Between 1816-1855, Wilhelm von Struve took measurements to show that the latitudes are longer in Scandinavia than at the equator. With this discovery, Struve proved that the Earth is not spherical but oval. The World Heritage Site is about 7 km from the facility.

Other sights worth visiting are Elmer's farm, Karungi village, Taavola farm, Tervajänkke, Karsikojärvi swimming area, Pitkäjärvi bird tower, Saivara stone age village, Leipijärvi swimming area and Myllyjärvi barbecue area.

Haparanda city is also a drive away and obviously something you should not miss. Haparanda is Sweden's easternmost urban area. The city is located right next to the national border with our dear neighbor Finland and borders directly with the Finnish city of Tornio, also a city that offers lots of exciting opportunities.
