Nestled in the scenic Gästrikland countryside between Sandviken and Ockelbo, Medskogssjöns Camping is a family-friendly destination where nature and comfort seamlessly come together for unforgettable holidays. Situated directly on the shores of Lake Medskogssjön, this campsite offers a perfect balance of peaceful lakeside charm and easy access to essential services and activities — making it ideal for campers, caravaners, motorhome travelers, and tent enthusiasts alike.
The campsite is thoughtfully sized so that both children and adults can relax without feeling overwhelmed, yet it’s packed with well-maintained facilities designed to elevate your stay. You’ll find a shallow freshwater beach with a gentle entry — perfect for swimming on warm summer days — and a water slide that’s always a hit with younger visitors. A wheelchair ramp into the water ensures accessibility for all.
For water lovers, boat and canoe rentals are available at reception, with options including rowing boats, pedal boats, canoes, SUP boards, and small motorised barbecue rafts — all supplied with life jackets so you can explore the lake at your own pace.
Medskogssjöns also features a wood-fired sauna located between the service house and the swimming area — a wonderful way to unwind after a day in nature (note that you’ll need to bring your own firewood).
A welcoming restaurant and mini-market kiosk on site means you won’t have to travel far for meals, snacks, or basic supplies, and a boules court and picnic areas make it easy to enjoy outdoor social time with family and friends.
Whether you’re pitching a tent on a grassy plot, pulling in with your motorhome, parking a caravan, or staying in one of the cozy cabins, Medskogssjöns Camping offers a comfortable, nature-centric experience that’s perfect for summer holidays, active weekends, or multi-day escapes.

The beauty of Medskogssjöns Camping extends well beyond its lakeside setting. The campsite is just off National Road 272 (“Tidernas väg”), making it easy to access the surrounding attractions and amenities.
Ockelbo, the closest town, is about 13 km (roughly a 15–20 min drive) away and offers local restaurants, cafés, grocery stores, shops, and services — perfect for stocking up on supplies or enjoying a casual meal in town.
For families and nature lovers, several short hiking trails and sections of the famous Gästrikeleden trail begin right from the campsite, leading you through peaceful forest pathways that are great for walks, birdwatching, and berry and mushroom picking in season.
Just a short distance away, you’ll find attractions like Wij Trädgårdar, a beautifully curated garden and outdoor attraction that’s fun for all ages, and the Älgparken i Ockelbo (moose park), where visitors can observe and interact with native wildlife. Both are under a 30 km drive and make excellent half-day outings.
Outdoor adventure doesn’t stop there. The forests around Medskogssjön are rich with natural beauty, offering abundant opportunities for mountain biking, extended hikes, and even snowmobile trail access in winter — with trail maps available from the campsite’s reception.
Whether you want to explore lively small towns, dive into local culture, stroll scenic forest corridors, or take a refreshing dip in the lake, there’s a wealth of nearby attractions that add depth and variety to your stay.
Medskogssjöns Camping is deeply rooted in nature and family-friendly tradition, and a few key details can help you make the most of your experience. First, check-in typically begins at 13:00 and check-out by 12:00 unless otherwise arranged, giving you plenty of time to settle in and explore at your own pace.
Fishing enthusiasts will be delighted to know that “put-and-take” sport fishing is now practiced in Lake Medskogssjön, with rainbow trout and char stocked seasonally. Fishing licenses can be purchased directly at reception or via iFiske (digital delivery via app, email, or SMS). Be sure to follow local fishing rules and seasons as outlined by Medskogssjöns Sportfiskeklubb.
The campsite’s location places you within a tranquil environment, but there are a few house rules to ensure everyone enjoys their stay. Motor traffic within the campsite should be kept to a minimum, and vehicles must travel at walking pace. Music and noise should be considerate of others, especially at night — generally kept low after late evening hours.
Pets are welcome but must be kept supervised and on a short leash, especially near the lake area. Dogs are allowed to swim at the start of the nature trail, but otherwise pets should be walked outside the primary camping and lake access zones to respect guests who may have sensitivities.
For your comfort, the service house (including kitchen and laundry facilities) is open year-round, and Wi-Fi is available in the restaurant area — ideal if you need to stay connected.
Whether you’re here for a lakeside holiday, a fishing getaway, or active outdoor adventures, these tips and practicalities will help ensure your stay is smooth, respectful of the natural setting, and refreshing in every way.
