Description

Nestled on a sunny southern slope above the leisure spa “badkap” in Albstadt-Ebingen/Albstadt-Lautlingen, Sonnencamping Albstadt offers a panoramic view over the hills of the Swabian Alb. The entire campsite is arranged on three terraces, ensuring that nearly every pitch or accommodation enjoys a sweeping vista of the surrounding mountains.

Open all year round, the campsite welcomes caravans, motorhomes, tents, as well as those arriving without their own accommodation. There are 48 generously sized pitches (65–75 m²) for caravans and motorhomes — all on grass-gravel ground with wide driveways allowing easy maneuvering. In addition to that, there is a separate motorhome stop on the lower terrace offering 16 more pitches, accessible 24/7. For tent guests, two dedicated tent meadows with power connections are available.

If you don’t bring your own caravan or tent, Sonnencamping also offers rental accommodations — including cozy sleeping barrels (standard or XXL), stylish bungalows, and future stilt-houses on the upper terrace.

On-site facilities ensure a comfortable, hassle-free stay: modern sanitary buildings including shower cabins, toilets, washbasins, a family bathroom (bookable), and a disabled-access bathroom — all accessed via transponder. Additionally, there are laundry and dishwashing facilities, a refrigerator for guest use, cooking and washing-up areas, and a supply-&-disposal station right behind the campsite entrance for water and waste disposal.

For leisure on-site: a children’s playground, a table-tennis table, a barbecue hut, and both indoor and outdoor lounge areas (for reading, watching TV, games) are provided. A small shop near the reception offers bread service, camping supplies, beverages, ice cream, and more — ideal for campers who realize they forgot something or simply want a treat. Wi-Fi is available across the campsite (chargeable), so you can stay connected even in the hills.

Whether you come by caravan, tent or choose one of the rentals — Sonnencamping Albstadt combines a topography-driven layout, flexible accommodation types, and solid facilities to deliver a relaxing, well-equipped camping experience any time of year.

Nearby

Sonnencamping sits directly above the spa & leisure pool complex “badkap,” making it a perfect base for relaxation and wellness. More broadly, its location in the Swabian Alb positions you at the heart of a nature-rich, activity-oriented region.

For hikers and nature lovers, there are 7 certified “Traufgänge” premium hiking trails near the campsite — varying between 9 and 17 km, ranging from easy to challenging, offering beautiful views over the rolling landscape. For those who crave even longer adventures: the 350 km-long quality trail “Albsteig” is only a few kilometers away.

If you prefer cycling, the area excels: the new Apollo Sports mountain-bike trail starts directly at the campsite, offering a 21 km route over hills and through local terrain. For downhill mountain-bike fans, Bikepark Albstadt — with multiple downhill tracks for various skill levels — is nearby, and this park even hosts big events like the UCI Mountainbike World Cup.

After outdoor adventures, guests often head to badkap’s swimming & wellness pools, a short walk down from the campsite: indoor/outdoor pools (up to 32 °C), a sauna area with multiple saunas, steam baths, solarium, and massage options — perfect for unwinding. Discounted tickets for the pool are available at the campsite reception.

Beyond nature and sport: the region around Albstadt and the Swabian Alb offers cultural and historic exploration. Nearby attractions include castles and historic sites such as Burg Hohenzollern, the town of Sigmaringen with its impressive castle, and scenic monasteries like Kloster Beuron. Shopping lovers also benefit: the region retains a long textile-industry tradition, so many local outlets offer bargains — especially cycling gear or clothing.

Golf enthusiasts can find well-kept greens at one of several nearby courses, and if you want to see the Swabian Alb from the air: gliding and motor-aviation opportunities from the local airfield in Albstadt-Degerfeld give a unique perspective — a truly varied slate of activities for all seasons.

Good to know

  • The campsite is certified by both ADAC and BVCD — a mark of quality and reliability for both camping and motorhome pitches.
  • Reception opening hours are generally from 9–12 am and 2–5 pm, but the campsite itself is open all year and the motorhome stop is accessible 24/7.
  • For comfort: sanitary facilities, dishwashing and laundry services, waste disposal, a supply shop, and gas bottle exchange ensure you don’t need to overpack — ideal for camper or motorhome travellers.
  • On-site Wi-Fi is available (chargeable), which is handy if you need to stay connected — though as with many countryside campsites, your connection may depend on signal quality.
  • While the surrounding region offers a lot, note that many attractions (hiking trails, bike parks, historic castles, shopping outlets) will require a short drive or bike ride. The campsite’s location above “badkap” is convenient, but exploring beyond means traveling.
  • Because of the terrace layout, some pitches or accommodations may be higher or lower — if mobility is a concern, it’s worth asking the reception for a suitable spot.
